The Science Department of the Velocity Interoperability Network today announced the appointment of five standing committees to prepare its scientific advice. Four committees advise on measurement standards, analytical methods, materials and structures, and environmental measurement; a Scientific Advisory Council, chaired by the Department's Chief Scientific Adviser, coordinates their work and reports to the Department.

Committee members are scientists and engineers drawn from the Department's laboratories and from the member organisations of the Network. They are appointed for two-year terms and may be reappointed once. The committees meet quarterly; the first sittings are held between 28 September and 9 October 2026. Summaries of the advice given are published on the Scientific Advice page of this site.

Member organisations and departments of the Network may request advice by writing to the Department. Standard requests are answered within ten working days; urgent matters are answered as they arise. The committees, their fields of work and their first sittings are set out on the Scientific Advice page of this site.
