Science Department Publishes First Statistical Release

The Science Department of the Velocity Interoperability Network today published its first statistical release. The release covers the transition period from 10 August to 5 September 2026, during which member organisations transferred their laboratory functions, instruments and records to the Department, and records the position at establishment on 6 September 2026.
During the transition period, 7,340 samples were analysed under interim arrangements, together with 2,414 calibrations of measuring instruments, 628 reference materials issued to member organisations, 41 written advices on scientific questions and 175,800 environmental measurements recorded by the monitoring network. At establishment the Department employed 214 scientists, engineers and technical staff and held twelve reference standards of measurement in custody.
The Department will publish statistics quarterly. The next release, covering the quarter ending 30 September 2026, will be published in October. The full release, including activity by service and the planned capacity of each laboratory, is set out on the Statistics page of this site.
